Elephant Hide GCXW7P (Halls Gap)

This was the first find on my trip to visit the amazing Grampians during my stay in Halls Gap for New Years. It's a very quiet little town so I was impressed at the number of caches on offer. The town is perfect for a quiet (or rowdy) camping trip with friends.

That photo wasn't actually where the GPS will lead you but it's a great photo of the Grampians nonetheless. I was with a group of people on a walk leading up to the cache and mentioned caching too them and while they were reluctant at first, I think they all enjoyed the hunt and were asking if there were any more caches after we had found this one.

This bridge is pretty much where the coordinates bring you and you can see my little geo-helpers on the right of the picture. One of the crew actually found it and I think as we can all relate; the first cache find makes you want more and more! She was quite excited to find it. To be honest, I didn't do much looking because I wanted one of the crew to find the cache to get them hooked.

We took a stone and left a peg. I signed the log and left my calling card and the group did a signing together. It was my first group caching experience and it was heaps of fun.

  1. We are glad you enjoyed Elephant Hide, the first time we drove through the Grampians, I was knitting (as I do) and happened to glance up yo see a huge rock that looked just like elephant hide, so when we prepared this cache it just had to be near that rock. It was initially elsewhere under a rock but was muggled several times so we moved it to where it is now. Glad you enjoyed cahing in a group!
